Booklist - 01/01/2026 Quiet, socially anxious Willa has a deeply important special interest: the U.S. Postal Service. A local mail disappearance leads Willa’s hero, Marshall the mailman, to mistake her for Two Gum Tilly, a known mail thief in the area of Willa’s hometown of Stony Lonesome, Arizona. Distraught about her new outlaw status, she runs away, only to find herself quickly swept up by a group of other runaways who call themselves the Gumshoe Gang, who operate with a mission to stop Two Gum Tilly at any cost. This warmly funny, offbeat story uses a bright, high-contrast color palette with a thorough infusion of western style and speech to great atmospheric effect. Plenty of hilarious one-liners and capital-C Characters add even more depth and charm. The density of the western-feeling language may skew this one toward older or more sophisticated middle-grade readers, who will find the journey toward Two Gum Tilly’s unmasking enjoyable even if they figure out her identity quickly. A quirky, memorable pick for readers who enjoyed Paper Girls or Thummler’s Sheets trilogy. - Copyright 2026 Booklist.
